It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time, before my girl was even geriatric. When getting our first dog Skittles from the Humane Society back in 1994, I noticed there were quite a few elderly dogs in kennels. They all had a sad story cliped to their cage...something about an owner having them for 10 years and then "moving to a place that didn't allow dogs". This is heartless and unacceptable to me. That particular humane society euthanized dogs after 7 days if they weren't adopted, and sometimes if they're "too old" they killed them on the spot. Not many people go to the shelter looking for a dog over 7 or 8. Everyone wants the puppy (can you blame them?). But these old souls gave their all to a family that tossed them aside like garbage. I want to give them a chance at happiness till the very end - the very natural end.
